About the event
The 1st Annual East-West Music & Dance Festival will bring (200 dancers and musicians) eastern and western artists from the Tampa Bay community and beyond together for a one-of-a-kind event to showcase the talents of musicians and dance performers, stretching hands across geographic and cultural divides in order to fellowship together in the universal language of song and dance. The festival will feature both small and large group performances with a spotlight on Indian flavors inspired by the Choreographer Shivali Vyas and her dance company Spinning Canvas presenting a unique group performances engaging over 100 dancers of different styles of folk dance and music from the Gujrat, Punjab, Maharashtra, Southern regions and beyond. Other eastern-styled performances together with western musical and dance acts will combine to form a smorgasbord of cultural music and dance that will delight audiences of every persuasion. The event has scheduled both local and national touring acts such as Wahh World Fusion Band - Indian Music, Music, kafkasso - Mediterranean Music & Dance, Bomba Body Dance & Drum - Afro Puerto Rican Music & Dance and Maurice Allen & Friends - Jazz & More. This all-day family friendly event will also feature multicultural activities, food vendors, and a kids play area. The event is supported by a Special Events Partnership Grant from the Cultural Arts Commission, part of the Arts Council of Hillsborough County. Spend your Sunday soaking up sights and sounds inspired by all corners of the globe.
Tampa’s Shruti Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to promoting Indian and World Culture in Tampa Bay through music and dance, hosting community events and festivals.
Water Works Park in Tampa, is a riverfront park with a large bandshell for performances, open, green space, covered and shaded picnic area, a playground and splash pad for children. It is also adjacent to the City of Tampa’s Riverwalk, a 2.6-mile long open space and pedestrian trail along the Hillsborough River.
The event is seeking vendors specializing in ethnic food, jewelry, regalia and art. Interested parties should visit the Shruti Foundation website for details. Limited space is still available.
Tickets for the event will be $10 in advance (tickets available online) or $15 the day of the festival. Special discounts are available for large groups such as schools or other organizations.
